What is the purpose?
- to help us examine the logic behind various positions
- to get past the logical fallacies that plague most dialog about meaningful things
- to help us have consistency in our worldview
- to teach thinking, reason, logic
- similar to “4 views” books… presenting reasonable explanations of differing opinions (though not for all topics)
- because sometimes we only have a few moments to answer important, complicated questions, and having a thoughtful response can help us love others and be true to reality more effectively
Why this format?
- Because our ability to think logically about life is critical. It impacts our relationships, our money, our happiness, our eternity.
- Because being explicit about the logical steps we’re taking can help. When we’re forced to slow down and examine each logical connection, it helps us to see where we may be skipping things, or assuming things, or making an informal fallacy.
- Because our normal conversations on these topics can be so weighed down with emotion that we make logical errors.
- Because we are often unaware of our assumptions and the role they play.
